Hello my name is Taylor, and my brother is Mark.
Mark suffered a traumatic brain injury on 8/27/10. His recovery process has been one with many ups and downs and it only continues. Everyday Mark fights to gain the strength that he needs to do everyday activities that most of us take for granted. After having been in a coma for several weeks and at one point not knowing if he was going to make it, Mark was lucky enough to pull through. Mark was faced with having to relearn how to walk, how to talk, how to sit up, as well as many other daily activities. These activities become harder than normal because of his problems with short term memory. Instead of attending school dances and football games, Mark was working to relearn everyday tasks in rehab. Even something as mindless as swallowing his food became a difficult and scary task for him. Traumatic Brain Injuries is a very serious matter and can change a life in a matter of seconds. The good news is Mark is a fighter he has come a long way and I know will only continue to try his best.
Every March is TBI awareness month and I would like to share my brother’s story now more than ever. Mark has come across some major obstacles here in the past few weeks that my family as well as Mark are not sure how to get help with. We are praying that he will be able to have surgery to correct the issues as soon as possible and it just shows that TBI's are truly a life long battle for the individual as well as the family. I would like to share my brother’s story with as many people as possible in order to help prevent and share knowledge about Brain Injuries.
Mark's injury could have been far less severe if he had been wearing a helmet. Please everyone always remembers to put safety first. I would like to share my brother’s video as a step to raising awareness. Mark you are a fighter and will only continue to fight. Love you to the moon and back!
