Hello my name is Michael Otoo.
I suffered a severe traumatic brain injury in the summer of 2016. I was involved in a motor vehicle pedestrian accident. I was in a coma for 5 days and was told I would never make it back to school or play basketball again.
I am a university student athlete who had aspirations of playing pro basketball overseas and was devastated. I rehabbed with TRAC Group In Ottawa and had to take a year off to rehab. As you guys know with a severe brain injury you lack confidence and never really have faith in yourself, but the one thing that gave me hope was basketball and my drive to make it back. I went to Mount Allison University at the time went there a year after my accident and I realized I wanted a change.
I went to St Thomas University the last 2 years and did things I’d never imagine. I not only made it back to basketball I killed it, I was top 5 in the league in various categories was top 10 in CCAA for 3pn shooting was a CCR all star, won CCAA athlete of the week and killed it.
I’m so proud of my journey because of the countless hard work and I want to be able to share it as much as possible.
